Frequently Asked Therapy Questions
Why is physical therapy a good choice?
Pain, injury, or changes in mobility can make it harder to do the things that matter to you. Physical therapists are movement experts who help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms, not just where it hurts.
Through individualized treatment, physical therapy can help reduce pain, improve strength and mobility, restore function, and help you return to the activities you enjoy. Whether you are recovering from an injury or surgery, managing an ongoing condition, or simply finding it harder to move comfortably, physical therapy can help you move and feel better.
Is physical therapy painful?
Physical therapy should not be unnecessarily painful. Your physical therapist will work with you to improve movement, strength, and function while keeping your comfort and goals in mind.
Depending on your condition, you may experience some temporary discomfort or soreness as you work to restore mobility and strength, particularly after an injury or surgery. Your therapist will adjust your treatment based on how you are responding and what is appropriate for your recovery.
Communication is important. Let your therapist know what you are feeling during and after treatment so they can help you progress safely and comfortably.
Can I go directly to a physical therapist?
In many cases, yes. You may be able to see a physical therapist without first getting a referral from a physician. Requirements vary by state and insurance plan, so our team can help you understand what applies to you.
Your physical therapist will also determine whether physical therapy is appropriate for your needs and, when necessary, recommend that you see another healthcare provider.
Not sure if you need a referral? Contact your local H2 Health clinic and we’ll help you determine your next step.
