Pediatric Occupational Therapy
At Great Strides, our pediatric occupational therapy program is designed to help children gain independence and develop essential life skills. We work with children from birth to age 21 with developmental diagnoses, supporting them in reaching their milestones for daily activities, motor skills, and sensory processing. Whether a child needs help with fine motor skills, self-care tasks, coordination, or sensory challenges, our occupational therapists use fun, play-based interventions to build confidence and success in everyday life. Through personalized therapy, we empower children to grow, learn, and thrive in their environments.

How do you structure your sessions?
I start with fine motor tasks in my room but usually have a balance or prone motor activity for a body warm up. Children who are more cooperative for the writing or fine motor can start where they want to. My sessions are often child led with a sensory motor basis as long as I can get them to participate in a way that optimally targets the building blocks needed. - What kind of patients do you typically work with?
I work with a variety of children with ASD, ODD, ADHD, dyslexia, DCD, and Developmental Delay diagnoses. My favorite goals are targeting while on swings, obstacle courses, and writing goals. I love working with kids in prone or on the Bosu ball, use of the wiggle pen for tracing and dot to dots. I love engaging kids with new motor games like Bombardo (prone hand ball game) or the floor is lava in the hallway. We have a lot of fun here. - What’s your favorite part of working with patients?
I love seeing them shine! I love when you can see they feel good about themselves, their progress, their drawing or their leaning. I live when a shy kid with social problems is smiling and laughing and engaged.

- Do you use any specific tools, exercises, or technology in your sessions?
I utilize a child-led approach to treatment and often utilize sensory integration therapy when treating my patients. It is so important to look at our patients holistically to ensure we achieve maximal therapeutic outcomes. - Why do you love using these methods?
I love these methods because it allows me to use the patient’s strengths and interests, ensuring my patient feels comfortable and safe in the therapeutic space. Additionally, sensory integration therapy allows me to address the sensory needs of my patients, often improving therapeutic outcomes for goal achievement. - How do you ensure patients leave feeling accomplished?
I strive to use positive encouragement throughout my sessions. I want my patients to leave my sessions feeling supported, loved, and valued.
