Eric R, MPT
Eric has been practicing as a licensed physical therapist in the Roanoke Valley of southwest Virginia since 1999. He was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Early on while attending high school, Eric found his passion for outdoor activities, sports, health, and wellness. This is where he developed his lifelong goal of incorporating his passion into a Physical Therapy (PT) career that could help others achieve their health and wellness goals. He attended the University of Richmond from 1989 to 1993, graduating with a major in Biology and a minor in Health and Sports Science. Soon after graduation, he was hired by BarnesCare Corporate Health Services where he provided PT Technician services, performed pre-employment isokinetic evaluations, and helped develop back school programs for employees of both small and large St. Louis area businesses. It was this work experience that solidified his decision to seek a degree in PT. Eric’s vision came into focus with strong support and innovative collaboration from his wife, Angie, whom he met while attending graduate school at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. They graduated together from the Master’s program of Physical Therapy with MPT degrees in 1998. Shortly thereafter, Eric and Angie settled in Roanoke, Virginia and began their PT careers. Eric and his partners founded Spine and Orthopedic Rehab of VA (SORVA) in 2002. Eric is an HSS Rehabilitation "Hip Preservation Certified Clinician", is certified in dry needling (includes a post-graduate certification through Myopain Seminars in Bethesda Maryland, and two certifications through the American Dry Needling Institute: Integrative Dry Needling Pain Management and Advanced Dry Needling Course for Sports Medicine and Trauma Rehabilitation), ML830 cold laser application, casting for Sole Supports custom molded foot orthotics, has extensive training in sports medicine, post-operative rehabilitation, nutrition, has presented on various PT topics, achieved competency in vestibular disorders through the APTA (American Physical Therapy Association), holds an orthopedic specialist certification designation (OCS) bestowed by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, and has been certified in Virginia to provide direct access treatment through the APTA. Eric believes deeply in his Catholic faith, and outside of work enjoys spending precious time with his wife and three amazing daughters Sydney, Olivia, and Caroline. In his free time, he enjoys spending it with close friends, playing soccer, fishing, wakesurfing, hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking. He loved the challenges that private ownership entailed, and credits his unbelievable staff with SORVA’s success over the past 23 years. SORVA sold the business to H2 Health in 2024.
